as you all know, i'm chronically online
i try my best not to be, though.
i feel like in this age, we're all just so tethered to our phones.
i don't mean this in a boomer-like "oooo ur phone is a problem" type of thing. more like EVERYTHING is trying to get on the phone, and this thing has such a limited screen real estate, limited power supply, and while versatile, does not give me the best experience of what i'm trying to do.
everyone and their moms wna take pics, listen to music, go online, game, read emails, read books, on their phones.
and for each of those tasks, the smartphone seriously does not give us a good enough experience
just ok at everything
i snapped and had this thought when i was sifting through thousands of photos deleting screenshots, lame memes, work photos (a LOT of them)
the smartphone is good, im not saying oooo technology = BAD. no. but maybe we should use it as a crutch, instead of a proper replacement of anything.
AND ... YEA, IM GNA YAP AND COMPLAIN
like gaming for example. almost every mobile game u download is gna be free, and they're gna limit your gameplay so that you'll pay for in-game currency.
and it drains the battery on your phone like crazy. maybe 2 hrs of straight gaming without having to charge again
compare that to the gaming library and gaming experience on a $40 DS lite or a $70 PSP.
tactile buttons, good sound, good games, good battery life.
and that's just gaming
another example i brought up is photo taking.
it's annoying that everything is a mess, my work pics, old screenshots, and other irrelevant stuff is mixed up with important images of times i spent with my loved ones.
it's made me want to bring around a camera everytime i go out
and MUSIC ugh. what happened to headphone jacks? they were great!
HOW MANY THINGS DO I HAVE TO CHARGE NOW!? it's SO annoying. HALF the month i go to work without music because i forgot to charge my headphones
like yeah yeah i know get a headphone jack adapter, but what if i want to charge while watching youtube? ugh. just bring it back
also, spotify sucks. i have to pay, not everyone i listen to is on it, the algoritm sucks.
battery life sucks
let's be honest, if you're lucky or have a brand new phone, MAAAAYBE it can last you all day
otherwise u best be bringing around a portable charger or a wall charger.
my phone lasts maybe from 8am to 2pm before it needs a charge at 30% during a work day.
then i'll be plugged into a wall again.
a lot of this just sounds like someone just complaining and whining and maybe you're right.
but also consider - maybe you're short-changing yourself? idk maybe not.
decentralization
yea. i'm decentralizing my stuff.
-
i have a 3ds, a psp. so i never download any mobile games that can take up space on my phone and drain the battery.
-
i plan to get a $30 mp3 player off of aliexpress that has 80 hrs of playback time, download hella albums
-
for emailing (work) on the go, i have an 2017 $150 laptop that's snappy running a light linux distro
-
for pics, i have a zve10, and now i just need to figure out how to best make it portable because even with the kit lens only, it still is kinda bulky. but if i fix that problem, i fix the problem of having all my pics in one place.
also like i said i'm not gna say ooo smartphone bad... NO. it's good. i love my phone. but i want to optimize for joy, and sometimes it's just shy of the mark.
