why?
well. i wanted a small form factor and to be able to play a ton of games.
something i can take with me in my pocket and play on the bus, so i can go around without a bag.
the psp is the perfect size. ofc, i could have gone for a modded switch lite, and it wouldnt be that much pricier either but honestly a psp has more aura
what i've got
on the left: psp slim 2000
i received it for free from my friend.
on the right: psp 1000
bought it for $50

plans
at the moment ive only bought parts for the psp 1000
and only plan on modding that, but i believe i'll get around to the psp slim 2000 soon
parts:
- > clear blue shell
- > new battery
- > IPS LED screen
- > glass screen plate
- > sd card adapter for psp
they're set to arrive in the first week of jan 2025 so fingers cross all is well with the delivery
will update again when they arrive and i start the modding process
30/12/24
the parts arrived
so i got the shell, glass, and IPS screen.

the battery takes a while longer but trust me BUY OSTENT batteries they're worth the money
in any case, i needed to disassemble the entire PSP 1000 and take apart EVERYTHING to swap the shell.

i used Total Kommando's vid for this. i'll link it here: "How To Properly Disassemble A PSP 1000 "
this one might help too, this is after he disassembles his psp 1000: "Watch This Before You Shell Swap A PSP 1000 "
about glass screen plate
it's good, but for crystal shells, it's almost impossible to remove the glue on the front plate of the shell.
i ended up destroying the front plate and had to reorder a new one :/
anywho shoutout to this girl on youtube (i forgor her channel) for putting together this sick hardstyle / nightcore playlist so i can jam to it while working
28/1/25
the rest of the parts arrived
so i ordered again another front plate, and this time i skipped removing the plastic screen plate.
with the battery also having already arrived, and with a solder iron in my possession,
i proceeded to replace the front plate, and also installed the IPS panel

i needed to solder these two points (the 2 small white dots in the pic)
completion
so now i have swapped the shell successfully, charged the new battery, and also soldered the two points needed, and installed the IPS screen.
physically, everything is there

it's beautiful
hacking the psp
so now i have a functioning psp, and want games
i went ahead and watched Total Kommando's video on installing Ark-4 for the psp.
i will link it here: "How To Mod Any PSP On Any Firmware In 2025 | Full Guide "
i then installed the cxmb plugin, downloaded all the games, and themes i liked.
the result:
here i'm showcasing the screen, the sound is working, everything is working, the custom blackrock shooter theme, and the many games i downloaded.
only had one hand to operate the psp so it was kind of a struggle to record thisall in all, very happy with the end product!!
i purchased another set of parts for the psp 2000 my friend gave me, so that i can mod it for my gf <3
